Depression is no joke. It can put you down for the count. It can make the simplest task difficult to complete. It can lead you to over eat, over sleep, over think. It can be the tears that wash your face before bedtime. Depression for me doesn’t feel bleak or heavy. It’s more lethargic with a mix of melancholy – life continues as it should, blessings and all, and yet my outlook is just “meh”. Unfortunately, this is not anything new. It comes and goes, more so during the winter months. I know that my experience is common among others. I also know that we will all soon snap out of it.
My prayer for today: Please help me to believe.

Dear Woman, please remember your worth. It is not enough to simply know that you are deserving of love and respect - you have to actually believe it. If you consistently celebrate and honor all that makes you unique and special, others will pay you homage as well, following your lead.
Doing Less For More
by Monica Evans I can't hate on my body while expecting it to be healthy... The New Year is a great time to reflect on past resolutions. Healthy living has always been a personal goal of mine, and I’ve made some pretty important gains towards a better lifestyle. In 2011, I joined Black Girls Run, a group dedicated to the encouragement of African-American women seeking to make fitness a priority. By 2012, I was running half marathons, which ultimately led to me running my first full marathon. I was living the life I had wanted, while challenging myself to accomplish my goals! I lost weight and looked great; but in the back of my mind, I wondered if this was sustainable. Would I be able to continue to progress at this pace? Did I even want to? When you can take the bad with the good and still remain positive, you’re winning.
With so much activity happening on the Aquarius-Leo axis, there is added emphasis on collective concerns versus the concerns of the individual ego. We’re being asked to consider the big picture in certain situations, and avoid falling into the trap of making things personal. A balance must be struck in other words, because really, it ain’t always about you. The astrology this week begs us to search for compassion and understanding while swallowing our pride, so that important connections, networks, and group affiliations focused on change can proceed effectively. |
