The Spring Equinox occurs on the same day as a super charged Super (Full) Moon. We can bid adieu to winter in the northern hemisphere and plant new seeds for growth and replenishment. This is all quite timely; potent energy is on tap for purging and renewal.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)
“Maybe that’s enlightenment enough: to know that there is no final resting place of the mind; no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom ... is realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.” ~Anthony Bourdain
These words spoken by Anthony Bourdain may be difficult to swallow. It may not be easy to accept this as truth, humbling ourselves enough to let it fully sink in. These words are just another reminder of why Anthony Bourdain was once compared to an “open vein.” He was raw, pulsing with a passion and vulnerability not at all hidden or covered up. He very intentionally exposed what lied beneath the surface of certain pleasantries, be it decadent food, or in worldly pursuits. I was devastated by the news of his death. He will surely be missed. “Nothing is more important than our relationship to the truth. It might temporarily demolish us. It might rip from us the false comfort of our delusions. It might make us reframe every aspect of our lives. But it will never, ever hold us from our purpose; from a life lived with depth, meaning, and incredible magic. It will knock us off the pedestals we’ve been unfairly placed upon, but it will never let us down.” ~Chani Nicholas

“Nobody ever rises to low expectations.” ~ Marie Forleo One of the most important lessons I have learned in my 30+ years is that people are not trying to disappoint you. We often cannot help but feel disappointment. But it is never anyone’s intention to disappoint. For every bullet that entered Stephon Clark...
He was an entrepreneur; he would make money selling shoes. A nutrition supervisor, beloved by the students at his school. She was set to start a new job at her old alma mater. She kissed her son – he was right there beside her. He had budding talents, a popular child who liked to draw. She was with friends on the west side, hanging out at Douglas Park. Every time you saw him, you knew you would have a good day. Tall and athletically inclined, he had tattoos of his family’s names. An amateur musician who just graduated before his death. He gasped, “I can’t breathe,” before he took his final breath. She said, “you promised you wouldn’t kill me;” he accepted Christ at the age of six. He had recently enrolled in Tulsa Community College, to pursue his passion for music. Her hair had to be on point; her nails had to be on point; her purse had to match. The way he snatched that confederate flag, was a brave and courageous act. She was at home watching T.V. He was celebrating with friends on New Year’s Eve. She was invited to perform at the second Obama inauguration. She was the 27th killed at the end of last year – a beautiful and loving person. He served two terms in the U.S. Coast Guard, and trained as a massage therapist. Another Black person murdered in the U.S., amongst countless added to a long and growing list. Shall we get right to it? 1. Unlearn the Ways of Patriarchy (this includes sexism, white supremacy, and capitalism) I know not all men are incapable of running the world. I also know many women who believe that to run things in this world (e.g., Fortune 500s, international NGOs, countries, etc.), one must think like a man and present as un-woman-like. I say, no more! Traditional patriarchy centers on the belief that men hold the power, while women are largely excluded and conditioned to be subservient. This is a problem, and it is the root cause of sexism. In a patriarchal society, men are considered the more dominant, stronger sex. They are the experts — the authorities here to protect humanity from both real and perceived danger. A super, blue, full moon, lunar eclipse, peaks in the sign of Leo this Wednesday. It is a super moon because it will be at perigee, i.e., closest to the Earth, and a blue moon because it will be the second full moon this month – the first full moon fell on New Year’s Day. How timely and appropriate that a full moon will close out the month of January, a month that set-in motion what we can expect in the year ahead.
The Winter Solstice will be unlike any other to date. Preparation for the long dark night will continue as tradition foretells, but this dark night comes with added weight. You are most likely feeling it already, as the rules of law and land in our society are turned upside down, wreaking havoc both nationally in the U.S., and internally. Life as we know it will continue to change; this, I can say with certainty. Astrological omens paint a clear picture, and if you are not a professional astrologer, you can still feel it. The rumble is real – you are not imagining things. The long dark night is upon us. Only time will tell how, when, and if we resurface.
“You do not need planning permission to build castles in the sky.” ~Banksy
The energy above has me fired up in ways that are so liberating, so exciting, and so unapologetic, that I cannot help but to embody and embrace this cosmic surge. I have become more vocal in opinion with family and friends, working harder these days to empower my clients to live fully empowered lives. I am no longer interested in towing the line – my choice is to live free. To suppress, deny, or reject what is innate within me – what is innate within each of us – would be a disservice to the essence of who I am. You do not need planning permission to build castles in the sky. It is your birth right to dream big, pursuing that which brings you happiness and content. |
