As this new career chapter unfolded, I had no idea what to expect. All I knew was what I would need next – an office and a website. Poof and poof – intention manifested. Then, to my surprise, I was offered a gig on the nationally syndicated Russ Parr In The Morning radio show, which may not have even occurred if a friend had not invited me as her plus one to an event Russ Parr was hosting in Silver Spring, MD.
Two years later, I would have an established client base and a business license; three years later, I would be certified as a life coach to aid with my astrology readings; four years later, I would go down to part-time at my full-time job in order to focus on my practice; seven years later, I would leave my part-time job and career in international education to become a self-employed femme-preneur.
I had always been told growing up that opportunity and preparation were the two ingredients needed for luck. But I would not necessarily call this journey lucky. In fact, the ingredients for my success included the following: support from friends, family, mentors, ancestors and God; a genuine love for astrology; trust in what was unfolding (because it felt so effortless); hard work, and interestingly, the combination of skills I acquired from previous jobs. I do not have an MBA. I do not have a five-year business plan. And, if I can somehow find a way to do work that I love (work that is often considered a “soft-skill” despite my two degrees), so can anybody.
The most important life lesson I have learned throughout my astro/coaching journey is to always be open to the journey. I do not know if I will continue doing this work because I never knew that I would ever begin. Life is full of twists and turns; the best way to live is to lean into the bend at every curve as the plot thickens. This is what it means to live life to the fullest. Doing so may lead you down many purposeful roads toward a life of happiness.
