Capricorn in 2012

The planet Pluto covers a lengthy distance around the Sun, and can take up to 267 years to complete its orbit. As Pluto revolves around the center of our universe, it spends an average of 18 years in each constellation that represents the signs of the Zodiac. Its influence on us down below is gradual and steady – never abrupt like the influence of some of the faster moving planets, i.e. Mars, or even the Moon.

Pluto in Astrology is concerned with death and transformation. The energy of this planet is regenerative, forcing us to face and transcend our fears in order to grow and be born anew. In November of 2008, Pluto made its way into the sign of Capricorn. As a result, we have seen much change on a global scale. These same seeds of change have been planted on an individual level, particularly in the lives of those born with their Sun in the sign of Capricorn.

The Sun in Astrology is concerned with the ego self. That is why we all identify, first and foremost, with our Sun sign; it is descriptive of our general make up. When the energy of Pluto and the Sun are combined, ‘death’ is inevitable with regards to who we are and how we see ourselves in the future. A rebirth to the order of life as we know it soon follows, symbolized by the great Phoenix rising from the ashes. Such reincarnation can happen on many levels, and this, my Capricorn friend, has been your exact experience for quite some time.

If you’re wondering why this is so significant in 2012, four years after Pluto moved into your sign, it’s because there will be a couple of other planets augmenting this transformative cycle. Those planets are Uranus, which is affecting you in your family and domestic life, and Saturn, which is influencing your career and professional life. You have certainly seen a shift in these areas, and have had no choice but to adjust. Thankfully, by the end of this year, much of the suspended tension will subside, particularly with regards to your career.

There will be plenty of other, shorter transits throughout the year that will help to smooth out the effects of Pluto while you are in the thick of transition. This planet will be in your sign through 2023, so you’ve got a little ways to go. Still, 2012 will be a significant year for you, indeed – not just in your waking life, but also on a deep soul level will you truly evolve.

Happy New Year, Capricorn!
