A Selfless Full Moon

“It is possible to go beyond religion, and become a prayer.” Sister Joan Chittister

I’ve decided to join a church. Not to feel closer to God or begin a religious practice (this church is non-denominational). But because I am desperate to be a part of a community where I can have experiences that are bigger than me. Where I can be inspired. Where I can be of service. Where I can experience enhanced spiritual growth, aligning myself with those who challenge me to step outside of my comfort zone and be all that makes me divine. I’m excited. I know this commitment will encourage me to begin fully applying my own soulful beliefs and practices - those of which you have read on this weekly blog - to my everyday life.

I must admit, however, that I am equally hesitant; mostly due to remnants of Catholic guilt that any former Catholic would understand, but mainly due to the acknowledgement that I will have to start living my soulful beliefs and practices even more openly and fearlessly. I’m nervous, too, about the obligations that come with joining a church. It’s not enough to just show up every Sunday and contribute to the weekly offerings. I would actually have to get involved – participate in different fundraisers, community events, and humanitarian causes. There’s also the possibility that I’d get to volunteer to teach a class on Astrology to interested members (oh, the pressure!). But really, such obligations are worthy, and if I don’t like it, I can always unjoin (free will is awesome).

In case you are wondering, my decision has been influenced by a growing need to give. I’ve spent a nice chunk of my time here on planet Earth pursuing many different personal ambitions, getting degrees, and climbing the ladder of achievement in the workforce. I’m a huge proponent of success in the traditional sense, with a sincere appreciation for all things measurable. But I’m ready for a new kind of experience now, one that has no tangible reward. I’m right on point with my evolution too, as we approach the Virgo Full Moon scheduled for this Thursday, March 5th.

Virgo the Virgin is concerned with purity and distillation. It’s a sign that likes to dissect a problem for the sake of identifying very simple solutions. This is how Virgo operates at best, feeling a sense of pride and purpose helping others with this approach. But opposed the Sun in Pisces, the Full Moon is asking us to transcend the details of practical service, identifying ways to self-actualize without the need to be self-gratified. The theme of this Full Moon in other words is selflessness: performing acts for others with minimal concern for personal gains. Your horoscopes this week explain how best to utilize this energy that comes with the promise of otherworldly returns. Don’t forget to read for your Ascendant sign too.

I'm at the same place as you!! Church was a big part of my life up until a few events led me to seek a metaphysical path. I've totally embraced Reiki, light healing, hypnosis, learning about all religions.
Recently I've had a strong urge to join a church - (or volunteer).
Reading your blog has inspired and motivated me to get up off my
bump and put myself out there. Blessings!!

Thanks for your comment Carol! I blame my urge on the same metaphysical path - what a journey, eh? Good luck to you my friend!

I am very happy and excited for this new step in personal development. I appreciate the sense of gravity you feel with the responsibility involved. Wishing you peace and happiness always.

Sounds like a plan. You already know to grow means to step out your comfort zone so I applaud you. I hope the church doesn't still consider Astrology as 'the devils work'.

Lol Leslie! This church embraces Astrology (and me, haha), so I feel safe, which is good! Thanks for leaving your comment :-)
