Halloween, also referred to as All Hallows Eve, is upon us. It is when the veil between the living and the dead is most thin, leading up to the celebration of All Soul’s Day at the start of November. This time of year is meant for the commemoration of our dearly departed. The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos in Mexican culture) is when we commune with spirits that wander the Earth to conjure great power from our deceased, and prepare for the long dark night. It is a time for reckoning – we come face to face with what lurks in the shadows for redemption. Whether that be a hidden fear, a painful history, or a country's shameful past, our guardians can be invoked for absolution.
To my ancestors who fought and died for me to live this life, may I make you proud, and be a beacon of light.

"Above all, do not lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lies comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect, he ceases to love." ~Fyodor Dostoyevsky
We have officially entered my favorite time of year – Scorpio season – when night grows long, leaves change hues, and we prepare for the great submerge. Now is when we begin to take stock of our lives before entering a deep winter’s slumber. But to renew and replenish, we must first dig; we must investigate what lies beneath the surface of who we are, and rest up for the purge. As we prune, removing the many masks that we wear, we get to the roots of our souls. What roots have been badly damaged, and what roots can bring forth new growth, is for us to discern. And no matter our discernment, this is a process that requires both courage and truth. I believe that our ability to truly love another, can be measured by our ability to love ourselves.
If I were to tell you that your ability to love another can be measured by your ability to love yourself, how would you rate your ability to love? Do you even agree with this statement? If not, what is your belief about love (comment below)? I ask, because "love" is a word we use to the point of trendy and slogan-y – Love conquers hate; Love means never having to say I’m sorry; All we need is Love – without much reverence for what the word means, exactly, or how it shows up in our everyday lives. “When the personality fully aligns with and serves the energy of the Soul, that is authentic power.” ~Gary Zukav.
On October 10th, Jupiter will leave the sign of Libra, and enter the sign of Scorpio for a yearlong transit. This is big news (Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system, after all!) as we begin to stretch and grow in new ways. Jupiter in Libra expanded our capacity to connect. Partnerships and collaborations of all kinds were forged. We became more diplomatic while exhibiting traits such as fairness and consideration. Libra is a peaceful and balanced energy; Jupiter’s presence in the sign of the Scales enhanced our ability to relate to others. |
