It is during this time of year that I usually begin to reflect on the year itself, and how I wish to enter the next new cycle. There is always something that marks my experience, something that greatly influences what I hope to manifest as the Earth takes another spin around the Sun. But 2018 has been quite unique…
This year panned out exactly as anticipated, astrologically speaking. What I wrote in this piece almost a year ago today pretty much sums it up:
"The toughest decision we will ever make – that which requires hard work, commitment, and dedication – is the decision to invest in oneself. Saturn in Capricorn demands we create space for a new set of rules that reflect who we are as individuals… even if it means hardship. And this, will require time."
Saturn in Astrology is the Father of Time, and Capricorn, the sign ruled by the ringed planet, knows how to strategically use its time to reach its goal. Whether consciously or not, we have all become more acquainted with time over these past 12 months. In fact, time has become my personal bedfellow, and not always a welcomed one.
One thing that has been reaffirmed for me in 2018 is that time is my most valuable resource, and it waits for no one. I can either use the time I have effectively and responsibly, or I can watch it go to waste. It is up to each of us how we choose to be in relationship with time, and that relationship must reflect our priorities and what we value.
Of course, using time effectively is not always for fun and recreation. Time must also be spent doing chores and attending to obligations that prolong joy. There is never any immediate gratification in tasks like doing taxes, researching medical insurance, or getting into healthier shape. Typically, the reward comes later; we are usually rewarded after having invested time.
Nevertheless, even though 2018 has been a dense year, it will end well for those who have committed to self-growth. A place of genuine content will be the reward, a content that inspires us to slow down, be more considerate and intentional, and reach success on our own terms, in our own time.
This kind of deliberateness continues in 2019, and without too much resistance. Next year sees us getting back in right relationship with time, reconciling history, and making up for time lost. Only time will tell what is in store. Better use it wisely.
