Be Bold

“To act is to be committed, and to be committed is to be in danger” ~James Baldwin

I have been fighting battles all week. Battles for human rights. Battles for proper medical care. Battles for love. Battles for my own self. And nope, I do not feel exhausted. I feel alive.
I feel more alive than I can remember. I know where I stand. I know what I must do. I know what I need. I know which battles are worth fighting. This is not necessarily thrilling or exciting, as much as it is firm and decisive. I am committed, in other words. It feels good to commit to myself. It feels good to stand up for what is right. It feels good to ask for what I need. It feels good to invest in that which is true, whether others agree or not. I blame Venus for this. The Goddess of love, beauty, and all that we value is transiting the warrior sign of Aries the Ram. No more Mr./Ms. Nice Guy/Gal – put up or shut up! Do I feel combative? Yes. But Venus is bringing a whole lot of grace and charm into the mix (plus, my Virgo Ascendant keeps me grounded, thank Goddess).

The transit of Venus through Aries ups the ante in our lives – mainly around love and money. It is a delicate mix of assertion without being reckless; of bravery, but with caution. This is especially important as Venus turns retrograde (which started yesterday – Aries wants things started NOW). As she backtracks in the sky, disappearing into the blinding light of the Sun only to resurface as the Morning Star, our efforts in love and with money will also resurface. We too will backtrack over battles waged. Relationship chapters may be reopened. Financial investments may be reassessed. This will be a time for checks and balances, ensuring that our actions and commitments do, in fact, reflect what it is that we deeply value.

Aries is an impulsive energy that emboldens us to dive in and take initiative. But Venus is subtler. As the natural ruler of Libra in Astrology, Venus prefers diplomacy, tact, and refinement; you can see why this transit produces a mishmash of energy. I may be feeling edgy, but that edge will wear off during her retrograde, and I will be forced to look at the mess I have caused – a mess that will have triggered a shake-up of things for better or for worse. And that is the point. Venus in Aries insists that we pursue the things we want with courage, even if we end up getting bruised in the process. We may not land on our feet. Our efforts may prove fruitless. But the reverse is equally possible; we might just get exactly what we want. We could land squarely on our feet after walking that thin line. This is an “all the way in or out” kind of influence. If we lead with the passion that burns in our hearts, we can’t go wrong.

Venus will retrograde for four weeks, which means we’ve got time to reassess, change our strategy if necessary, consider our passions, and get it right. We will be asked to make sure that our battles are worthy and true, so use this energy wisely. Do not be afraid to go to battle, but do not fight without a cause. Check your ego. Ask for what you need. Know what you want. Go after it. Slay. Be bold.

Venus will retrograde through Aries and back into Pisces through April 5th. To find out how your life will be affected, check out my Venus Retrograde special reading.
