Conjunctions occur when planets orbit next to one another in the sky, in the same Zodiac sign, within a five to eight degree orb. Jupiter and Saturn form what’s called a “Great Conjunction” every 20 years, ushering in a new cycle for the planet Earth and its inhabitants.
Over the past 200 years, this conjunction fell in the Earth signs of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Earth is a solid element that represents foundations. The previous cycles saw the erection of systems and structures that have shaped who we are as a society, for better or for worse.
The new cycle of Jupiter and Saturn conjunct begins today in the sign of Aquarius – the element of Air. Air is like ether; it represents the heavens and higher echelons of the Universe. The element of Air inspires fresh ideas that enlighten our way of thinking and how we engage the wider world.
The last time Jupiter and Saturn were conjunct in the sign of Aquarius was during the 15th century at the start of the Renaissance period. Moving from the Dark Ages to the Age of Modernity, this period inspired out the box thinking and a broader vision for the collective.
Political reform, cultural expansion and artistic innovation were the main motivators for the Age of Reason and Period of Enlightenment that followed. Societies were changing and evolving. A shared humanity was beginning to form.
As outdated structures and system fall before us, an invitation to envision the world we wish to create for ourselves, and for the benefit of others, is on offer. Aquarius is revolutionizing. It represents true liberty, freedom of thought, and a break from conventional norms.
Technological advancement is likely – everything from the rise of bitcoin to “AI” will infiltrate cultures around the globe over this next 20 year cycle. Philanthropic endeavors and societal uprisings will be what paves the way for a new world order.
And so, as we enter the dark season, consider what cannot come with you into this new age. The word “renaissance” means “rebirth;” we are all on the precipice of being reborn. The darkness we currently find ourselves in is the, “darkness of the womb,” to quote Valerie Kaur.
We may not know what to expect during the long night, but we can certainly be intentional with what we choose to give birth to in the light. Follow me on Instagram (@trae2u) for a Solstice ritual this evening that will help you ease into Solstice and come out, reborn, just in time for spring.
Solstice Blessings, dear Friend.
