I understand the fear associated with darkness. But one must still travel through the dark in order to reach the light, just as a child passes through the dark canal of the womb to be born. Poet Jalāl ad-Dīn Rūmī wrote, “Both light and shadow are the dance of love.”
And so for solstice, I invite you to get acquainted with the dark. Get in bed with it. Get intimate with it. In the comfort of your own space, get curious about the dark. Ask it questions like, “why are you here,” and “what messages do you bring.”
When you can bask in the dark just as you bask in the light, much can be revealed and purged and released. You will actually feel lighter. Dark and light are the same – neither is good or bad. Both are necessary for the ways in which we function in the world.
This week, sit in the dark. Go outside in the dark. Light a candle to help you see in the dark. Reflect on what might be hidden in the dark. Welcome the dark into your heart space and thank it for its insights. Know, too, that light will return and be restored.
For solstice, may you be blessed with courage to see in the dark, and by the wisdom that follows.
Horoscopes for reflection have been posted for the week, and don’t forget to read for your Ascendant sign too.
