Shaken Out Of Comfort: Uranus Transit of Taurus

Security is a myth.

Just as classical mythology recounts tales of the Sky god Ouranos (Uranus) who comfortably ruled the entire Universe alongside the stabilizing force of the Earth god Gaia, it was the sudden castration and rebellion led by his own son, Cronus, that ended the rulership of Ouranos, and launched his demise as top god in the hierarchy.

Uranus incites rebellion in Astrology. This sky-blue colored planet encourages us to disrupt the status quo, and revolt against the hierarchy.
Uranus takes 84 years to make just one orbit around the Sun, spending seven years in the 12 constellations that name the 12 signs of the Zodiac. Each seven-year cycle of Uranus triggers revolutionary life changes that impact us all. In fact, over these past seven years, since the summer of 2010, Uranus has altered our way of living and being while transiting the sign of Aries the Ram.

If we were to think of the signs of the Zodiac as reflective of different stages of personal growth and development, Aries would be the newborn child. This is the first sign of the Zodiac, a wide-eyed fiery energy that comes with a genuine passion for life. It is why Aries is known to be free-spirited, impatient, and requiring of instant gratification.

The transit of Uranus through Aries influenced innovative milestones, and instigated and escalated tensions. From technological advancements and social entrepreneurship, to the rise of civil wars in Syria and Yemen, Uranus in Aries pushed the envelope. This courageous energy braved the unknown like a fearless warrior, leading us all to self-define and self-determine.

Think of the Arab Spring back in 2011. Think of the things we have left behind over the years (career, home, relationships, etc.) for the thrill of adventure. Liberation and freedom were hallmarks of this transit, both globally and personally.

Meanwhile, Taurus the Bull is the second sign of the Zodiac. Taurus represents that next stage of personal development where, after that taste of freedom, we become more aware of our likes and dislikes. Life is manageable and predictable. We are more familiar with our surroundings. We become attached to creature comforts.

It is also during this stage of development that we become territorial. Now that we have established certain freedoms, everything around us must support whatever that is. Our possessions take on added value. We prefer greater stability. We become resistant to change. Our understanding of the mighty dollar is further developed.

On May 15th, the planet Uranus will leave the sign of Aries, and ingress the sign of Taurus. Expect your luxuries, sense of security, and stable comforts to be shaken, if not usurped entirely.

Uranus transiting the sign of Taurus can literally be interpreted as an earthquake that shakes our foundations. What and whom we clench to with a mighty will is sure to be rocked. Outdated relationship values, poor financial habits, failed investments and materialistic dogma are just few examples of what will change, and all changes will lead to newfound freedoms.

Stability will come once the tremors calm. But as the tectonic plates rattle, an unraveling of what once gave us comfort and security is bound to occur.

This will be evident on a global scale in the form of fluctuating financial markets, capitalistic reforms, and land-property disputes. Taurus’ astrological symbol is the Bull that will not budge; there is certain to be resistance.

This will also affect our environmental landscape. The recent volcano eruptions of Mount Merapi in Indonesia, and Kilauea in Hawaii, are precursors of extensive climate change and the rising heat of our planet during this next seven-year cycle.

On an individual level, how you are affected depends on where Taurus falls in your astrological birth chart. Leo and Leo Risings will face shifts around professional security. Aquarius and Aquarius Risings can expect rocky moments on the home and family front. Scorpio and Scorpio Risings will experience a seismic wave of change in important relationships. Taurus and Taurus Risings, well, get ready for your own personal revolution.

Taurus is, by far, one of the most stubborn signs of the Zodiac. But for all the Bull’s immovability, possessiveness, and materialism, there is determination. There is steadfastness. There is strength.

Abundance is on offer during this transit of Uranus in Taurus if you can dare to step outside of your comfort zone. Just like the myth of Ouranos ended in his demise, so too will the myth of security for our own lives. Be free of your attachments. Be free.
