I believe it is possible to love unconditionally with boundaries; to wish others peace, success, and happiness from a distance; to intuitively know that you were meant to be with someone who is unavailable to you; to show compassion in the face of rejection and disappointment; to accept what is, let go, and move on from the one you love, while keeping space for them in your heart; to speak the painful truth with respect and integrity. Nothing in life ever has to be either/or. Your heart and mind can reach a compromise. There is no need to be demanding, or amenable. All that is needed is love when faced with joy, or adversity.

Two of my most recent breakthroughs occurred during the long winter months. I realized that 1) the feeling of sadness was underrated, and 2) It felt good to love no matter what. That second lesson has been the most pivotal; I never knew what it felt like to truly love in spite of it all. It’s affirmation that this heartfelt emotion is also a conscious choice that blends the ego and soul. Conscious love, in other words, is love in action. It is the ultimate form of personal empowerment. It frees you from attachment. It allows you to make the right decisions while choosing to love.
