The Harsh and Healing Truth

“Nothing is more important than our relationship to the truth. It might temporarily demolish us. It might rip from us the false comfort of our delusions. It might make us reframe every aspect of our lives. But it will never, ever hold us from our purpose; from a life lived with depth, meaning, and incredible magic. It will knock us off the pedestals we’ve been unfairly placed upon, but it will never let us down.” ~Chani Nicholas
I visited the Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration, and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, AL earlier this week. Both sites were erected in remembrance of the atrocities of domestic slavery, and how its history has evolved into a criminal justice system that incarcerates brown and black Americans at disproportionate rates, and in remembrance of victims of terroristic lynchings during the decades of Jim Crow, post re-construction in the South leading up to the Civil Rights era. The Moon was Full in the transformative sign of Scorpio as I spent the entire day reclaiming my ancestry, my past, my present, who I am now, and the future I seek to manifest. I am heartbreakingly full.

The legacy project was started by the Equal Justice Initiative back in 2010 under the leadership of Bryan Stevenson (unsurprisingly, a Scorpio). Mr. Stevenson envisioned the museum and memorial to be a direct confrontation with the truth of our country’s dark recent past, for the sake of healing and reconciliation. Healing, whether globally, nationally, environmentally, or individually, cannot begin unless wrongdoing is acknowledged. Just as Rwanda acknowledges its genocide, and Germany acknowledges its genocide, so too must the United States. So too must the State of Israel. So too must Syria, and so on, and so forth.

We are entering choppy months this spring and summer, courtesy of planet alignments. First up will be the earthquake that shakes us out of comfort, i.e., the new 7-year transit of Uranus through the constellation of Taurus the Bull. Uranus in Astrology encourages us to rebel against the status quo, while Taurus is a sign that values its status quo - that which is predictable, stable, steady, and comfortable. This new cycle will force us all to surrender unhealthy attachments to the status quo of our lives, generating greater liberties while simultaneously instigating change. What was stirred during the Scorpio Full Moon foreshadows what’s to come.

So, get ready…

Get ready to face your truth. Get ready to experience discomfort. Get ready to be broken open. Get ready to confront life head on, and heal. Get ready to leave behind any false sense of security. Get ready to go deep and be transformed. Get ready to reclaim your past and your present and your future. Get ready to reconcile that which has held you back for too long, and shift into a new way of living and being. Get ready to build relationships with what is right and just, even if it brings an overhaul to life as you know it. 2018 has seen us all “adulting” while we (re)commit to those changes in our lives that must be made. We have been preparing for this very moment.

It might make us reframe every aspect of our lives. But it will never, ever hold us from our purpose; from a life lived with depth, meaning, and incredible magic.
