To My Wounds, With Love

I’ll take a love that stays, over a love that stays for only one night. I’ll take a love that stays for only one night, over no love at all.

I saw the movie “Moonlight” over the weekend, and was moved throughout the entire film – the entire film. It was a story about identity, loyalty, inner wounds, healing, and love; there were several elements of the film that touched me deeply. What struck me the most, however, was the name of the main character – Chiron. In the story, Chiron to me is both protagonist and antagonist. His vulnerability could make you weep with awe, while his internal battles made you question his judgement. Never have I felt so many conflicting emotions for one character – an array of emotions that made me appreciate the human spirit.
Chiron is also the name of an asteroid that can be found in our astrological birth charts. In mythology, Chiron was known as the “Wounded Healer;” in our chart, this asteroid shows us where we experience our deepest wounds, and where we have the capacity to heal. The character Chiron in myth, and the character Chiron in “Moonlight,” have much in common. They are both deeply tormented, unable to heal themselves, and yet can still find a way to live and experience love. I should add that I am currently reading a book called “The Wounded Healer: Ministry in Contemporary Society” by Henri J. M. Nouwen, which addresses the fundamental woundedness in human nature, and what inspires us to be healed by our wounds.

In this new year, I can’t help but to be more observant of the wounds we carry – my own and those of others. It is as if we are being forced to acknowledge what brings us pain, for the sake of getting to the crux of our deepest desires, and what brings healing. Ever notice how your most difficult experiences, when shared, can be a source of redemption for your friends and loved ones? Suffering and healing go hand in hand; under the current cosmic climate, we are being called to embrace where we hurt – it is OK to embrace where we hurt.

A Lunar Eclipse in Leo this Friday will bring a dramatic revelation to what weighs heavy on our hearts. Thankfully, this eclipse will be part of a grand trine with Saturn in Sagittarius and Uranus in Aries. The Eclipse, Saturn and Uranus will be 120 degrees apart, forming an equilateral triangle in the sky, which represents an easy flow of energy. Whatever bubbles to the surface may be sudden and intense, but quickly grounded in truth that is hopeful. Like Chiron in Astrology, and Chiron in “Moonlight,” we are human and flawed and deserving of love all at once. That message is truth from the Universe.

To find out more about how these eclipses can bring healing, check out my special eclipse reading for February. Check your horoscopes to see what’s in store this week ahead in the meantime, and don’t forget to read for your ascendant sign too.
