I have been wanting to write this blog for a while now, but could not find the words, and felt a little scared to do so. You see, I have recently discovered yet another damaging belief that I continue to internalize, and it goes something like this: If I disappoint others, they will no longer want to love, befriend, or support me.

I was working in the field of international education (and loving every minute of it) before I became a professional astrologer and a certified life coach. This was never something I planned; if you had told me seven years ago that I would be doing astrology and life coaching for a living, I would have thought you were crazy. I was on a completely different career path and expected to continue working in my field, maybe even relocating overseas to Morocco, or Jordan. Apparently, that was not where I was meant to be.

Mercury stationed direct this week, and Mars will soon follow suit. This is the start to a long journey home, an invitation to come to yourself. “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” (Philippians 4:8)
Astrology is the practice of looking at planet alignments in the sky to interpret how our lives are affected. As an Astrologer, my readings are based on the movements of planets, and their impact on one’s astrological birth chart. I am not a psychic. I am not a medium. I am not a tarot reader.
In many of the annual readings I give to clients, there is always a “sleepy period” in their forecast, i.e., a low energy-cycle that can manifest as depression, sadness, lethargy, or simple exhaustion. While this is a natural part of the rhythm of life, most people do not like these periods. They beg the need to go off the radar and focus on inward pursuits, and as human beings, living in a world where poor internet speed can be a deal breaker when choosing a Wi-Fi network, our tendency is to fill the space with something. There is always something to do; why waste time resting?
For weeks, I have been telling everyone to sit in whatever is uncertain, have faith in what is to come, and live the questions for now. February was such a dreary and foggy month, with so much up in the air. Now that we have entered the month of March, a shift is in store. An energetic turning point will be felt this week; the clouds will part, and the Sun’s rays will blaze new trails.
Compassion does not equate to giving someone a pass.
Many religious texts and spiritual philosophies teach the importance of turning the other cheek. Christians believe that we should forgive others for their wrongdoing. Buddhists teach non-attachment. Toltec wisdom tells us not to take things personally. These insights are simple truths that lead to inner peace, and at the core of such wisdom is the lesson of compassion; compassion toward ourselves, and compassion toward each other. "Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you." Marianne Williamson
How often do you reflect on what you wish to cultivate in your life, clear on the decisions that need to be made, and the changes that need to occur? Do you ever pause to consider all the possibilities? Or do you reject your dreams, writing them off until they are hidden from view? I would argue that the majority of people, myself included, block abundance in life. Most times, it is never our conscious doing. In fact, the act of self-sabotage usually happens when we are close to success. The more clients I coach, the more I see the pattern, and the root cause stems from low self-worth. "What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have." ~Oprah Winfrey
I just returned from a trip to Cuba where I fell in love with the people, the live salsa music on every corner, and the revolution. There has been a shift in me – the kind that is felt when a sea of truth has consumed your entire being. I cannot unsee what I now see; I cannot unknow what I now know. I may not be too receptive for long, gaining wisdom and insights that can only be revealed once you have dared to step outside of your comfort zone. But an impact has been made. A coup of consciousness is currently underway. |
